A stream of sewerage from the back of the St. Ita's Place estate is running into the canal from The Harbour in Naas down to Osberstown Bridge.
Mayor of Naas and Social Democrats Councillor Bill Clear was alerted to the sewerage problem over the weekend.
Speaking on this morning's Kildare Today programme, Cllr Bill Clear has said that the canal is now almost full of sewerage.
This means that the biodiversity in the canal is now flowing into the River Liffey, as it overflows into a stream and then continues on into the river.
Cllr Bill Clear has contacted Uisce Éireann, Inland Fisheries Ireland and Waterways Ireland.
