1,269 tonnes of electrical goods recycled in Kildare in 2020.
There was a 56 percent jump in the number of electrical appliances being recycled during the first Covid-19 lockdown - compared to the same months the previous year.
WEEE Ireland says 1,269 tonnes of electrical goods were recycled in Kildare alone last year.
Research from the European Recycling Platform show there was a big jump in washing machines, ovens and dishwashers being disposed of in April and May last year.
One in four Irish adults recycled a kettle, while 19 percent say they got rid of a television in this way.
The study also shows that 30 percent of people are unaware that electrical retailers can recycle electronic items for free.
WEEE Ireland CEO, Leo Donovan, joined Clem Ryan on Tuesday's edition of Kildare Today.
