The Longest Night is a heartfelt initiative, dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by many during the holiday season.
The Newbridge-Kildare Samaritans Branch is delighted to launch this year’s Longest Night campaign, a heartfelt initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by many during the holiday season.
Figures show that 1 in 5 people who will call the Samaritans Ireland helpline this Christmas will have suicidal feelings.
With the unwavering commitment of over 70 dedicated volunteers, the Newbridge- Kildare Samaritans continue to provide essential support to individuals struggling with loneliness, mental health issues, and personal hardships.
This evening, Mayor Cllr. Peggy O'Dwyer and Deputy Mayor Cllr. Chris Pender joined the Samaritans team to shine a spotlight on this vital cause.
Mayor Cllr. Peggy O’Dwyer shared her thoughts on the campaign: "It’s inspiring to see our community come together to spread a message of hope and compassion to those who may be struggling."
Last year’s campaign saw 17 businesses displaying tea lights and five premises lighting up in green.
Deputy Mayor Cllr. Chris Pender echoed these sentiments, adding: "By lighting up in green, we’re showing that help is always available and that no one has to face their darkest nights alone."
This year, the response has been even more inspiring, with an even greater number of community members joining the effort.
