Mr. Marron passed away yesterday at the age of 91
Tributes have been paid to well-known Clane man Des Marron, who passed away yesterday at the age of 91.
Mr. Marron was born in Lisdoonvarna in County Clare on the 2nd of February 1934.
Des and his late father, Peter Anthony, the then Garda Sergeant in Clane, from Shercock in County Cavan, opened Marron's Pharmacy on Clane Main Street in July 1957.
Over the next number of decades, Des took over the running of the pharmacy and worked there up until recently.
A keen footballer, he played in goal for Kildare in the 1956 Leinster final win against Wexford.
Mr. Marron also had an avid interest in history, politics, music, singing and drama and had been the “Lord Mayor” of Clane since 1996.
On this morning's Kildare Today programme, Independent Cllr. Padraig McEvoy and Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly paid the following tribute.
