A positive update has been issued in relation to the residential site at Rickardstown in Newbridge.
It comes as the project, which was to deliver both social and affordable housing, had recently been paused.
In a shared motion between Kildare-Newbridge MD councillors, Fine Gael's Tracey O'Dwyer and Peggy O'Dwyer had asked for an update in light of the recent decision not to progress the Social Housing Public Private Partnership (PPP) Bundle 3 development.
There had been 98 social homes and 44 affordable homes planned for the site in Newbridge.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael councillor Tracey O'Dwyer described the update as "good news".
"It's good news that the project hasn't been cancelled, which was our original thought and the original messaging that was coming out."
She said that the costs were "unscalably high" under the existing model, but that the way it's being funded is likely to change.
"Thankfully the project itself hasn't been permanently cancelled, the way that it's funded will probably be different, and the way it is built will probably change."
It is now with KCC for consideration, and when the preferred delivery strategy with the council is decided, the project will proceed through to the appropriate approval process.
