Two Kildare Artists Selected For Visual Art Awards

Photo: RDS

Overall, 12 artists have been selected by six independent curators

Two Kildare artists have been selected for the RDS Visual Art Awards 2026.

Overall, 12 artists have been selected by six independent curators, who had visited graduate exhibitions earlier this year.

Naas-based Ava Bowden and Ballymore Eustace artist Caoimhe Kelly will both attend the event at the RDS this November.

Bowden is an IADT graduate and textiles artist, focusing on handmaking and slow, intentional creation, drawing on personal experience of chronic illness.

Her work comprises two hand-knit self-portraits in 100% wool, each made from approximately 59,073 stitches, exploring the relationship between the body, time, labour, illness and comfort.

Kelly, an NCAD graduate and artist and educator from Kildare, works mainly with photography and videography.

Her practice explores OCD through repetition, surveillance and ritualised behaviour, using CRT televisions, digital screens, looping footage and metronomic sound.

The RDS Visual Art Awards 2026 exhibition opens on 6 November 2026 and runs until 23 January 2027.

The exhibition marks the inaugural exhibition at Gallery at RDS.
