It's the latest group to strike as part of a dispute over a new public sector pay deal.
Up to 20,000 secondary school teachers and 48,000 primary school teachers will begin industrial action today, as part of a public service wide dispute over pay
The first phase will see ASTI and INTO members engage in a work-to-rule, specifically withdrawing from supervising children who arrive to school early or stay late
This will then escalate to a full day of strike action on Wednesday October 14th, alongside other public sector workers.
ASTI says the dispute centres on the Government’s failure to address the gap between public service pay and inflation as a priority in talks on a new national pay deal.
While the INTO says it has no option but to defend it's members’ living standards
The industrial action comes on UNESCO World Teachers’ Day.
