Uisce Éireann says it is prioritising improvements to a 4.2-kilometre section of water main between Leixlip Pump Station and Blakestown, parts of which are around 50 years old.
Businesses in Leixlip say repeated water outages are costing them thousands of euro and forcing some to take unusual measures just to get through the working day.
According to reporting by The Journal, local cafés have begun keeping emergency supplies of water, while hair salons have resorted to boiling kettles and, in some cases, asking customers to finish washing their hair at home.
The town suffered several supply disruptions during September, including two major bursts on the R148 Maynooth Road within the space of a week.
One café owner told the Journal her business had been forced to close on a number of occasions this year, with lost trade, wasted food and staff costs adding to the financial impact.
Pressure is now growing for a longer-term solution.
Kildare North TD Joe Neville has called for the replacement of a major water main serving the area, while local councillor Nuala Killeen has argued that repeatedly repairing individual bursts is no longer enough.

Plans also include around 1.2 kilometres of new water main along Station Road and measures aimed at reducing pressure fluctuations.
The project is currently going through design and approval, with no completion date yet confirmed.
