CAB Returned €5M In Cash To The State In 2020.

The job of the Criminal Assets Bureau is to identify, freeze and confiscate cash and assets that have been derived from the proceeds of crime

The Criminal Assets Bureau returned over 5 million euro in cash to the State last year.

The Justice Minister says it shows the crucial role of the organisation, despite the challenges of the pandemic.

Stephanie Rohan reports.

"The job of the Criminal Assets Bureau is to identify, freeze and confiscate cash and assets that have been derived from the proceeds of crime.
Designer clothes, watches, vehicles and even verache flip flops made up some of last years haul.
The CAB managed to return over 4.2 million euro to the Exchequer along with one million euro to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
The Bureau also returned over 5 million euro to the Nigerian Government
The CAB brought 31 new applications before the High Court last year - most of these related to drug trafficking along with thefts, burglary, fraud and money laundering."
