CHI Reports Sharp Rise In Children's E-Scooter Brain Injuries

Children's Health Ireland says admission for traumatic brain injuries linked to e-scooter crashes have increased by 50% over the past year.

Children's Health Ireland has reported a 50% increase in the number of children admitted to hospital with traumatic brain injuries following e-scooter crashes.

Eighteen children were treated for brain injuries at CHI Temple Street between June 2025 and May 2026, twelve more than the previous 12 months.

The hospital says one to two children are now presenting to emergency departments every day with e-scooter related injuries.

Doctors say many of the injuries are severe, with cases involving skull fractures, brain bleeding, and emergency surgery.

CHI is backing stronger measures to reduce the number of serious e-scooter incidents involving children.
