52% of women experienced sexual violence in their lifetime
Four in ten adults here have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime.
The figures are part of the CSO's first nationwide survey about sexual violence in twenty years.
The survey found that females were more likely to experience sexual violence than men – 52% of women experienced sexual violence in their lifetime compared with 28% of men.
In terms of age, around 65% of women aged between 18 and 24 have experienced sexual violence.
Meanwhile almost 8 in 10 adults who experienced sexual violence at least once; knew the perpetrator.
Almost 13,000 people took part in the CSO sexual violence survey and anyone who took part was aged 18 or over.
