Safeguarding Ireland has called on politicians to urgently progress the Adult Safeguarding Bil
Just one quarter of people believe people with disabilities should be supported to make their own decisions according to a new survey.
The poll, from Safeguarding Ireland, also found that 75 percent of the public believe there should be stronger laws to protect those with disabilities.
The Charity has called on politicians to urgently progress the Adult Safeguarding Bill, which has been lying idle for four years.
Chair of Safeguarding Ireland Patricia Rickard Clarke says it's time for Ireland to stop talking about change, and take action:
More than a third of people do not think those with disabilities have equal rights according to a new survey.
The charity says everyone should be able to live without experiencing abuse or neglect, and should be able to make their own choices.
Patricia Rickard Clarke says perceptions in Irish society do not reflect that
