The last remaining peat briquette plant in the country is closing its doors today.
Operations at Derrinlough peat factory in Co. Offaly were due to wind down by the end of the year, but have ended earlier than planned.
Bord na Móna says all 62 staff have been redeployed to other parts of the business.
Divisional Organiser for energy at SIPTU, Adrian Kane, says the closure of the briquette factory is a huge loss to the area:
