The Kerry TD was hospitalised following the incident.
A man in his 50s is due to appear before Dublin District Court later this morning charged in connection with the alleged assault of Deputy Michael Healy Rae.
The suspect was arrested yesterday as part of the investigation, which is ongoing.
This alleged assault happened on Cork Street in Dublin city centre at around 4 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon.
Independent TD Michael Healy Rae was sitting in his car in traffic when he was approached by a man who reportedly assaulted him through the window.
He was taken to hospital after suffering minor injuries.
A man in his 50s was arrested in connection with the investigation and has since been charged.
He's due before Dublin District Court this morning
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
