A man was charged today with the manslaughter of talented Limerick City sportsman, Alan Bourke, who had been capped for Ireland in both soccer and rugby.
48-year-old Alan Bourke, originally from St Mary's Park in Limerick, died after he was found seriously injured on Parnell Street, Limerick City, on April 15th.
Paramedics tried valiantly to keep Alan Bourke alive at Parnell Street, Limerick, on April 15th last, where he was found seriously injured, however he was pronounced dead a short time later at University Hospital Limerick.
Today, before Judge Marie Keane at Limerick District Court, 39-year old Michael Casey of Cathedral Place, Limerick City, was charged with Mr Bourke’s manslaughter.
Mr Bourke had been capped for the junior Republic of Ireland soccer team, and he had lined out for the Irish U-18 rugby team, as well as for a number of Limerick soccer and rugby clubs.
Gardai said Mr Casey made no reply to the manslaughter charge.
He was remanded in custody for a week to hear further directions from the State.
