This new building will be called The Rock Wing
A new 98 bed wing is being opened at Dublin's Mater Hospital this afternoon.
The Taoiseach is formally opening the nine storey building this afternoon.
This new wing includes 98 beds, with 16 of those being intensive care unit beds.
It’s also going to be the new home of the National Isolation Unit.
That part of the Mater treats people with infectious diseases like Tuberculosis, Viral haemorrhagic fever, bird flu or pandemic influenza.
Other infections treated by Isolation Unit staff can include HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Meningitis, MRSA and Malaria.
This new building will be called The Rock Wing, and was built under emergency Covid legislation in just two years.
