Plans for an energy facility in County Carlow will bypass the local authority due to its 'criticial infrastructure' status.
Councillors were informed by the company Zero Energy this week that the decision will be made by an Coimisuin Pleanala.
The hydrogen storage and generation facility would be located near Rathoe, and is estimated to create around 70 jobs.
It is estimated that it will save 180,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per annum, which equates to taking approximately 40,000 cars off the road.
