This summer was also drier than average

The longest ever dry spell was recorded in Carlow this summer.

The latest data from Met Éireann shows June, July and August were the hottest on record, with average temperature of just over 16 degrees Celsius.

It beat the record set last year and is two degrees above the long term average for the summer months between 1961 and 1990.

Rainfall data also shows this summer was drier than average and ranked as the 22nd driest summer on record since 1941.
