It's the result of an inquiry into the health service, which began in 2024.

The Data Protection Commission is imposing a €645,000 fine on the HSE for personal data breaches.

It's the result of an inquiry into the health service, which began in 2024.

This inquiry is the result of two personal data breaches notified to the Data Protection Commission in late 2023.

The first happened when people gained unauthorised access to St Loman's Hospital in Mullingar - a former psychiatric hospital contaminated with asbestos.

In November 2023, people gained unauthorised access to another disused psychiatric hospital at St Conal's Hospital in Letterkenny, which is contaminated with severe mould.

Videos uploaded to social media showed medical records were stored and retained in both facilities.

Officers carried out 12 site inspections nationwide to determined if the issue was systemic.

They found failings concerning the physical conditions of HSE document storage facilities and the integrity of the documents held within them.

The fine comes with a reprimand and a number of corrective orders.
