The incident occurred less than a week after the wrong-way M9 crash in Moone
A 17-year-old who allegedly drove a stolen BMW on the wrong side of the road in Cork city after Gardaí attempted to stop it, has been remanded in detention.
The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared at Cork District Court today, charged with ten offences relating to alleged incidents last month.
During the incident in Cork city, Garda Niall McCarthy said a Garda saw a stolen BMW X5 in the Mahon area at 4:40am on 20 August.
He said the driver made a U-turn after the Garda positioned his car to try to force the car to stop, and then drove off at over 110 km/h, eventually driving on the wrong side of the N40 south ring road eastbound for around 600 metres.
Judge Liz Healy told the boy he did a ‘very good job’ in his bail application, but was refusing it to protect him and others.
The boy is due to appear in court again tomorrow via video link from Oberstown Children Detention Campus.
