Gardaí in Monaghan are investigating a serious assault on a woman in her 60s over the weekend.
The woman was found with serious injuries at a house in Carrickmacross yesterday afternoon.
She was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where her condition has been described as critical but stable.
A man in his 20s was arrested and is being held at a garda station in Monaghan.
Investigations are ongoing.
