Former Kildare and Moorefield footballer takes charge of Laois champions
Former Kildare and Moorefield footballer Ronan (Roli) Sweeney has been appointed as the new manager of Laois county champions Portarlington.
The club confirmed the news in a statement, saying they were “delighted” to announce Sweeney as their new senior football manager.
Sweeney, who enjoyed a distinguished inter-county playing career, brings extensive coaching experience at both club and county level to the role.
The club went on to thank outgoing manager Pat Roe and his management team for their "exceptional work over the last 2 seasons".
Portarlington have been a dominant force in Laois football in recent years, reaching six of the last seven senior county finals and winning five titles.
They also enjoyed a strong provincial run this season, reaching the semi-final of the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship, where they were beaten by Athy.
