It's the third largest sporting event globally
Ireland has progressed to the final stage of judging to host the next America's Cup, the oldest continuing competition in sport.
Ireland is seeking to host the sailing competition in Cork in 2024 taking over from current hosts New Zealand.
The Government believes it's the third largest sporting event globally in terms of longevity, economic and media impact.
New Zealand forecast between 355 and 592 million euro would be injected into its economy over the three year host term.
The America's Cup is a yacht race between just two crews, a holder and a challenger, with racing taking place over three or four months.
However, the crews involved would often base themselves in the host country for up to three years prior to the race itself.
