Kildare deliver a spirited display but were edged out by Wexford late on to take the win in Newbridge.
Kildare showed plenty of fight in their Leinster Championship clash with Wexford, but it was the visitors who came away with the result after a strong finish at St Conleth's Park at 1-14 to 1-22.
The sides were level at half-time, with Kildare more than holding their own against a higher-ranked opponent. A key moment came before the break when Jack Sheridan found the net, helping the home side stay right in contention.
Kildare continued to battle after the restart and even edged in front early in the second half, but Wexford began to find their rhythm as the game wore on. A run of scores opened up a gap, despite Kildare continuing to respond through the likes of Cathal McCabe.
The decisive blow came late on when Lee Chin struck for a goal in injury time, sealing the result after already playing a central role throughout.
While the result didn't go their way, Kildare can take encouragement from a performance that saw them compete strongly for long periods against top-tier opposition in their return to this level.
