McIlroy Claims Second Title Of The Year; Maori All-Black Sean Wainui Dies In Car Crash

Rory McIlroy says he was always confident another win was close.

He claimed a second title of the year on the PGA Tour with a one-shot victory at the CJ Cup.

The four-time major champion carded a final round of 6-under-par 66, to end on 25-under.

It's the 20th PGA Tour win of his career.

McIlroy was pleased that his persistence paid off:



Shane Lowry finished in a tie for 54th on 12-under.

England's Matt Fitzpatrick claimed victory on the European Tour.

McIlroy's Ryder Cup teammate won the Andalucia Masters on six-under at Valderrama.

Jonathan Caldwell finished in a tie for 65th on 14-over.

Soccer

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce admits he doesn't know what his future holds after their first game under new Saudi owners ended in a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham.

They're second from bottom in the Premier League having yet to register a win in eight top flight matches.

Yesterday's game at St James' Park was suspended for over 20 minutes after a fan collapsed in the stands.

Newcastle have confirmed that the fan is stable and responsive in hospital after receiving medical attention at the ground.

In yesterday's other top flight match, West Ham beat Everton by 1-0 at Goodison Park.



Arsenal play host to Crystal Palace this evening.

The fixture sees Gunners legend Patrick Vieira return to his old club.

Kick off at the Emirates is at 8pm.

He came from a set and a break down to beat Georgia's Nikoloz Basilishvili in California.

The 26-year-old - who will rise to a career-high 16th in the rankings - prevailed 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Rugby

Maori All-Black Sean Wainui has died.

The 25-year-old passed away after a being involved in a car crash.

Wainui scored a Super Rugby record 5 tries in one game for the Chiefs against the Waratahs earlier this year.

In May, he signed for provincial side Bay of Plenty.

Racing

There's an eight race card at Gowran Park today where the first goes to post at 1.30pm.
