Shane Lowry, Graeme McDowell, and Padraig Harrington have all been cut, while McIlroy sits just outside the top ten.
Rory McIlroy remains the leading Irish contender at the US Open after a second-round 71 left him level par for the tournament and within seven shots of the lead heading into the weekend at Shinnecock Hills.
The Masters champion looked well placed after a steady front nine, but difficult conditions and a turbulent back nine saw him slip back.
Despite that, McIlroy heads into the third round tied for 11th.
There was disappointment elsewhere for the Irish contingent.
Shane Lowry failed to make the cut after finishing at six-over par, while Padraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell also exited the tournament following difficult second rounds.
