SWIMMING

Mona McSharry is the third Irish swimmer with a World Championship final to look forward to later.

The 21-year-old - who won bronze in the 100 metres breaststroke yesterday - is through to the final of the 200 metres event.

She finished 7th in her heat this morning, and set a new Irish record in the process, while Niamh Coyne was 14th.

McSharry's final takes place this afternoon at 2.41pm Irish time.

At 2.05pm, Daniel Wiffen goes in the 1500 metre freestyle final, while Jack McMillan is in the 100 metres freestyle final at 2.35pm.

SOCCER

The Premier League is set to continue with its fixture schedule - despite a record high of Covid-19 cases.

The latest round of testing confirmed 90 positive cases.

It has also been revealed that 23% of players are not doubly vaccinated against Covid-19, with 16% are yet to receive a first vaccine.

Countries would vote in favour of a World Cup every two years, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

He says a biennial staging of the tournament would be approved if a snap vote was called.

Member associations were informed yesterday that such a change would increase revenue by almost €4 billion euro.

Manchester City players Phil Foden and Jack Grealish have been warned over their conduct by manager Pep Guardiola, after they reportedly turned up to training in a poor condition.

A picture has emerged appearing to show them on a night out last Tuesday.

The England pair were dropped from the starting line-up for Sunday's Premier League win at Newcastle.

Boss Pep Guardiola said it was not "rotation".

Arsenal are in Carabao Cup quarter-final action this evening.

League One's Sunderland are the visitors to the Emirates for a 7.45 kick-off.

The other three last eight ties take place tomorrow evening.

DARTS

There will be a second round meeting of two former winners at the PDC World Darts Championship.

Raymond Van Barneveld is set to meet Rob Cross at the Alexandra Palace after a win over Lourence Ilagan last night.

Steve Lennon's third round opponent will be confirmed this evening.

The Carlow native will play the winner of the clash between Mervyn King and Ryan Joyce.

COVID-19

All sporting events in Wales will be played behind closed doors from St Stephen's Day to help control the spread of Covid-19.

It follows a steep rise in cases across the country due to the Omicron variant.

The Welsh government have made £3 million available to support clubs and venues affected by the measures.
