Kildare will play Division 2 League football next season following yesterday’s 2-20 to 0-18 points defeat by Mayo, whil will play Kerry in the Division 1 Final next Sunday in Croke Park at 4pm.

There was only a point between the sides at half time, Mayo ahead by 1-10 to 0-12.

There was still only a point in it after 48 minutes, but, a second Mayo goal and some Kildare missed chances saw the Westerners take control

Despite the defeat, Kildare’s Division hopes were still alive with Dublin and Monaghan drawing in injury time, but a last kick of the game 45m free by Jack McCarron gave them a one point win and Division 1 football next season.

He had done the exact same last season against Galway to keep Monaghan up.

Dublin were relegated for the first time since 2007 following that 1 point loss to Monaghan.

And a late Paddy McBrearty point gave Donegal a 1-14 to 1-13 win over Armagh.

Kerry suffered their fist defeat losing 1-15 to 2-11 to Tyrone, who won in Killarney for the first time in 19 years

In the other Divisions:  Galway and Roscommon are promoted from Division 2.  Offaly nd Down are relegated  to Division 3
