The service had been provided on a part-time basis
Kildare County Council has agreed to write to the HSE asking if a new contract will be advertised for GP services in Ballymore Eustace.
It comes as the existing provider is set to close from 20 October, with medical services being ceased.
The service had been provided on a part-time basis, with councillors interested in whether any future GP service would be available on a full-time basis instead.
There is currently no private GP service in the village.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Naas MD Evie Sammon said there is a "want" for a full-time service in the area:
"The initial want and ask from Ballymore Eustace residents was that a full-time GP service would operate out of the health centre in the village.
"I have GPs who would like to operate from the health centre in Ballymore Eustace, so there is a want to provide the service. "
Cllr Sammon also remarked that the centre is "one of the last health centres in the county", adding that "a lot of these health centres are community centres now and have had a change of use".
"It's about really making sure that the dispensary [health centre] stays there."
She hopes that the council receives a positive response from the HSE, and that advertisement for a future contract for the service can be advertised "quickly".
"It's imperative that it's a quick turn around and that residents don't have to travel outside of the village to access a GP."
