Monday Morning: Eadestown & Kilcullen Bow Out Of LGFA Leinster Championships

Lost to Tinahealy of Wicklow & Skryne of Meath, respectively

GAELIC GAMES

Eadestown Ladies Senior Footballers lost to Tinahealy yesterday, in the Leinster Senior Championship Semi-Final.

The game finished 2-15 to 2-10, in Eadestown GAA.

 

Kilcullen also missed out yesterday.

They lost to Skryne of Meath - 4-14 to 3-10, in the Leinster intermediate quarter final.

GOLF

Rory McIlroy is back to the top of golf's world rankings after securing the 23rd win of his PGA Tour career last night.

The county Down native finished on 17-under-par to win the CJ Cup by a single shot in South Carolina.

Shane Lowry finished in a tie for 23rd on six-under, while Seamus Power ended the week on level par.

SOCCER

Starting locally this morning, Clonmullion and Clane United will contest this year’s KDFL Lumsden League Cup final after their respective semi final wins yesterday. 

Clonmullion beat Kilcullen 3-0 and Clane had a 2-0 win over Coill Dubh.

The final will be played on Sunday October 30th in Mullarney Park, Castledermot at 2pm.

Newcastle are in the Premier League's top four this morning.

Eddie Howe's side beat Tottenham by two goals to one yesterday to climb up to fourth.

Arsenal remain top - but were held to a one-all draw by Southampton.

Leicester boosted their survival hopes with a 4-0 win over Wolves, while Aston Villa beat Brentford by the same scoreline.

At Elland Road, Fulham came from behind to overcome Leeds 3-2.

There's one game in the Premier League this evening.

West Ham take on Bournemouth from 8pm at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are just a place outside the relegation zone in 17th ahead of tonight's clash, with Bournemouth in 13th.

Shamrock Rovers could be confirmed as SSE Airtricity League Premier Division champions tonight.

The Hoops will be guaranteed the title if Derry City fail to beat Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds.

Kick off is at 7.45pm.

At the same time, Tolka Park is the venue for Shelbourne's meeting with UCD.

All of the Republic of Ireland's World Cup group games will kick off at 8pm local time in Australia next summer.

Vera Pauw's side take on the hosts in their first game in Sydney, with the meeting with Canada taking place in Perth.

The final group game against Nigeria will be in Brisbane.

It means the games will kick-off in the mid-morning and early afternoon in Ireland.

SNOOKER

Mark Allen has won his second consecutive Northern Ireland Open title.

The Antrim native defeated Zhou Yuelong by nine frames to four in last night's final in Belfast.

Allen was at one time four one down but then reeled off eight frames in a row to seal the win.

FORMULA ONE

Max Verstappen has extended his lead in the Formula One standings to 124 points after winning a dramatic United States Grand Prix.

The world champion overtook Lewis Hamilton in the closing laps - denying the British driver his first race win of the season in Austin.

Red Bull have clinched the constructors' title with Verstappen's record-equalling 13th victory.
