The Kildare Hurlers suffered defeat to Offaly yesterday

A mixed weekend for the Kildare hurlers.

Yesterday, the senior squad went down by 3 points to Offaly on a score of 24 points to 1-18

Kildare got off to a great start with early points and a goal by Gerry Keegan to lead by 1-4 to 0-2 after 10 minutes.

At half time they led by 1-11 to 0-11.

But, 13 minutes into the 2nd half Offaly levelled 0-16 to 1-13.

By 51 minutes, Offaly led by 5 points.

But Kildare piled on the pressure and fought back to within 2 before Offaly closed with a point in injuy time.

Kildare are back in action next week in the Joe McDonagh Cup when they play Carlow.

On Saturday, the Kildare minor hurlers beat Wicklow by 9-23 to 0-5, while on Friday night, the U20 hurlers lost to Laois by 1-17 to 0-11.

 The games will be reviewed on this morning’s Kildare Today at 10.40, while tonight from 6.30pm Kildare Scoreboard will review all the weekend Kildare sport.

Mayo are Allianz League Division One champions for the first time since 2019 after beating Galway by 14 points to 11 at Croke Park.

Dublin clinched the Divsion 2 title beating Derry 4-6 to 0-11 points.

Congratulations to St. Mary’s Naas who are Ladies football All Ireland Post Primary Schools Senior C champions.

 On Saturday, in Abbotstown, they beat Virginia College by 4-13 to 3-3.

Joe Willock and Callum Wilson got the goals, as they leapfrogged Manchester United into third place.

West Ham climbed out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory at home to bottom side Southampton.

Leicester have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers after four years in charge following their 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace.

In Rugby’s Champions Cup, Exeter Chiefs beat 14 man Montpellier yesterday on a try countback after the game ended 33-all after extra time.

Saracens came from behind to beat Ospreys 30-20; Toulouse beat Bulls 33-9.

 Leinster will play their Champions Cup quarter-final against Leicester Tigers next Friday, with an 8pm kick-off in the Aviva Stadium.

On Saturday Toulouse v Cell C Sharks, 3pm.

Exeter Chiefs v DHL Stormers, 5.30pm.

Sunday Holders, Ronan O’Gara’s La Rochelle v Saracens, 3pm.

Leixlip’s Liffey Celtics have completed the double of National Intermediate League and Cup.

 In Saturday’s Cup final, in the National Basketball Arena, they beat Claregalway by 65-52.

 Top scorers for Celtics were Megan Hoffman 14, Niamh Masterson 10, Karen Mealy 9.

Padraig Harrington finished in a tie for tenth at the Valero Texas Open last night.

A final round of one-under-par 71 saw the Dubliner end the week on eight-under overall.

That left him seven shots adrift of eventual winner Corey Conners.
