Monday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on GAA, soccer and rugby.

GAA

On Saturday, Kildare played Galway in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship.

Galway won in Cedral St Conleth's Park in Newbridge by 4-22 to 1-22 despite a strong performance.

Kildare travel to Kilkenny next weekend.

Roscommon manager Mark Dowd praised his side’s composure after they twice fought back from big deficits to beat Galway and win their first Connacht title since 2019.

Darragh Heneghan starred with 2-02 as the Rossies edged a thrilling final 3-21 to 2-22 at Dr Hyde Park to end Galway’s hopes of five-in-a-row

Kerry could be without star forwards Paul Geaney and Paudie Clifford for their All-Ireland round one clash with Donegal in two weeks’ time.

Geaney missed the Munster final win over Cork through injury, while Clifford was forced off at half-time after feeling tightness in his hamstring.

The Kingdom won that match 1-23 to 1-15 at Fitzgerald Stadium.

SOCCER

Arsenal beat West Ham 1-nil to earn a crucial Premier League victory which means they now lead Manchester City by 5 points.

But referee Chris Kavanagh was sent to the monitor by VAR to controversially rule out a last gasp Callum Wilson equaliser.

The hammers will be hoping for a big favour from Leeds United tonight.

They face Tottenham, who are just above the last relegation spot by a single point, with kick-off at 8pm.

RUGBY

Ireland are building towards a landmark Guinness Women’s Six Nations finale against Scotland this Sunday at the Aviva Stadium, with more than 26,000 tickets already sold.

Scott Bemand’s side go into the game on the back of a convincing 33-12 win over Wales in Belfast, with captain Erin King saying the squad are ready to embrace the occasion.

There are no major fresh injury concerns reported from the Welsh victory, as Ireland chase their best Six Nations finish since 2020.

Munster are hopeful Jack Crowley will return from injury for Saturday’s crucial URC clash with the Lions at Thomond Park, but captain, Eadestown's Tadhg Beirne is expected to miss out with a knee problem.

Clayton McMillan’s side sit sixth in the table with just a one-point cushion as they chase a play-off place and Champions Cup qualification.

Meanwhile, Connacht travel to Edinburgh on Friday knowing a win is essential to keep their own top-eight hopes alive.
