Naas Hurlers Crowned Leinster Intermediate Champions

Beat Oylegate/Glenbrien 3-12 to 1-11

GAELIC GAMES

Naas were crowned AIB Leinster Intermediate Hurling Championship winners, after beating Oylegate/Glenbrien of Wexford in St. Conleth's Park, Newbridge yesterday afternoon.

The full time score was 3-12 to 1-11, with Jack Sheridan scoring two goals and Cathal Dowling with the other.

Brian Byrne and Sheridan knocked over some excellent points throughout the game also.

Naas now advance to the All-Ireland semi-final, where they will take on Tooreen of Mayo next Sunday.

In the Kehoe Cup yesterday, Kildare senior hurlers were beaten by Carlow 1-25 to 19 points.

On Saturday Kilcullen lost out to Clonbullogue of Offaly in the Leinster Junior Football final.

The full time score was Clonbullogue 5-3 Kilcullen 1-10.

In the O'Byrne Cup, Meath beat Wexford 1-15 to 1-10 and Laois were 2-14 to 1-11 winners over Wicklow.

That now means that Kildare will play Laois in a Laois venue next Wednesday, in the semi-final.

Two-time Young Footballer of the Year Óisín Mullin has committed to Mayo for the coming season.

The Kilmaine clubman had been expected to move to AFL side Geelong.

However, Mullin says that after consideration he has opted to stay in Ireland.

It comes as a boost to Mayo, who are preparing for their Allianz Football League Division One opener against Donegal at the end of the month.

Kilcoo of Down will play Cork's St Finbarr's in the All-Ireland club football semi-finals.

Kilcoo claimed yesterday's Ulster title with a 3-10 to 0-3 win over Fermanagh's Derrygonnelly Harps.

St Finbarr's overcame the challenge of Austin Stacks of Kerry by 2-9 to 1-10 to land the Munster crown at Semple Stadium.

All-Ireland hurling champions Limerick will play Clare in the Munster Hurling Cup final.

They enjoyed a 4-29 to 0-11 win over Kerry in the semi-final yesterday.

Henry Shefflin has suffered his first loss as Galway hurling manager.

They lost 3-29 to 19 points to Dublin in the Walsh Cup at Parnell Park yesterday.

Elsewhere, Kilkenny beat Laois 1-27 to 24 points while Offaly overcame Antrim by 3-18 to 21.

RUGBY

Leo Cullen says he's hopeful Tadhg Furlong's injury isn't too serious.

The tighthead was withdrawn in the early stages of yesterday's Heineken Champions Cup win over Montpellier with a calf problem.

Leinster won the game by 89 points to 7 after scoring 13 tries at the RDS.

Ulster are through to the last 16 after their third win in a row.

They scored four tries in a 24-20 win away to Northampton.

The Toffees sacked Rafa Benitez yesterday after just seven months in charge.

Seamus Power is into the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time.

The Waterford native carded a final round of five-under 65 to finish in a tie for third at the Sony Open last night.

He ended the week on 19-under - four shots behind eventual winner Hideki Matsuyama.

Power is now ranked at 49th in the world, one place below fellow Irishman Shane Lowry.

SNOOKER

Neil Robertson is the Masters champion.

The Australian produced an impressive performance to defeat Barry Hawkins by 10 frames to 4 in last night's final.

It's Robertson's second Masters crown.

TENNIS

Naomi Osaka is safely through to the second round at the Australian Open.

The defending champion saw off the challenge of Colombia's Camila Osorio in straight sets.

In the men's singles, Rafa Nadal is through.

The Spaniard beat Marcos Giron of the United States in 3 sets.

CRICKET

Ireland secured a historic series win over the West Indies last night.

The visitors won their third One Day International by two wickets at Sabina (pr: Sab-eye-nah) Park to seal a 2-1 series victory.

Andy McBrine and Harry Tector both recorded half centuries as Ireland reached their target of 213 with 31 balls to spare.

RACING

A seven-race card is underway at Punchestown later.

The first goes off at 12.50pm.
