GAA

It’s a packed weekend of Kildare club championship action, with a number of knockout games down for decision today.

There were three results last night. In the National Electrical Wholesalers Intermediate relegation semi-final, Monasterevan 2-15 Staffan 1-17.

In the Intermediate Football A semi-final Ellistown 1-10 Ballyteague 11-points.

And in ladies football, Eadestown are the Kildare Senior champions, following a 1-13 to 3-point win over Kilcullen.

Attention now turns to today with the Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship quarter-finals taking centre stage.

At 4 o’clock, Celbridge play Raheens at Cedral St Conleth’s Park, while Carbury play Clane.

Then at 6 o’clock, it’s Athy against Maynooth at St Conleth’s.

There’s also a busy programme in the Intermediate Championship. Castledermot play Nurnery at 4, before Grangenolvin play Suncroft at 5 o’clock at Manguard Park.

Then at 7, Milltown play Rathangan, also at Manguard Park, for a place in the Intermediate final.

Soccer

In the Premier Division of the SSE Airtricity League, Bohemians have kept their title hopes alive with a 2-1 victory against Dundalk.

The win has seen them move level on points with their title rivals Shamrock Rovers and Saint Pat's.

Then in the Women’s National League, fresh from their win in the women's FAI Cup final, Shelbourne are away to Waterford at 3 o’clock.

Champions Athlone Town are home to Galway United at 4.30pm.

In the Nations League, The Republic of Ireland squad will train in Serbia later ahead of their Nations League clash with Israel tomorrow night.

They have four points from their first three fixtures, in a window dominated by protests around the two fixtures with Israel.

Northern Ireland moved to the top of their group with a 3-nil win over Ukraine last night.

After their 2-nil victory at the Czech Republic midweek, England are away to Croatia this evening.

Scotland go in search of their first win under their new head coach when they play North Macedonia.

 

Rugby

In rugby, Ciaran Frawley was the hero for Connacht on his debut as his two tries helped them pick up their first win of the new URC season last night.

Leinster close out their South African tour by playing the Sharks in Durban, while Ulster are away to Glasgow, both games kick-off at 5.30pm.

Ireland's women's rugby team look to finish the international window on a high with another win over Japan in Cork this afternoon at 2 o’clock.

In Energia AIL Rugby Divsion 1B, Naas are away to Nenagh Ormond, while MU Barnhall are home to City of Armagh, both matches kick-off at 2.30pm.

 

Golf

In golf, Padraig Harrington is well placed into today's third-round at golf's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Harrington is hoping to become the oldest winner in DP World Tour history this week, will tee off from six-under-par, five shots behind half-way leader Casey Jarvis.

 

Racing

And racing today is in Kilkenny and Dundalk from 1.20.
