Former Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan McLoughlin has passed away at the age of 54.
He scored the goal in Belfast that qualified the national team for the 1994 World Cup and made 42 appearances for the Boys in Green.
Michael D Higgins says those who remember the Charlton and McCarthy eras will be saddened by McLoughlin's passing.
The midfielder played at club level for Swindon, Southampton and Portsmouth.
