Ireland captain Johnny Sexton will face charges of misconduct at a disciplinary hearing today, the outcome could affect his participation in Ireland's World Cup

GAA

David Herity has informed Kildare GAA that he is stepping down as manager of the senior hurling team after 5 years in charge. 

During his tenure, Kildare won the Christy Ring in 2018, 2020 and 2022 and only this year, came so close to gaining promotion to Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League. 

Kildare GAA, in a statement, thanked Herity for his contribution over the last number of years and wished him the very best of luck in the future.

RUGBY

Leinster will begin next season's Heineken Champions Cup campaign away to reigning champions La Rochelle.

The repeat of last year's final takes place on Sunday, December 10th.

Connacht are the first Irish side into action on Friday December 8th, with a home match against Bordeaux.

Ulster are away to Bath on the Saturday, with Munster at home to Bayonne.

It comes off the back of the Champions Cup final between Leinster and La Rochelle in May.

If Sexton receives a ban it would affect his participation in Ireland's World Cup warm up games and maybe even the tournament itself.

SOCCER

Two more Irish sides are in Europa Conference League qualifying action tonight.

Derry City are in the Faroe Islands for a meeting with HB Torshavn, while Dundalk have made the trip to Gibraltar to face Bruno's Magpies.

Last night, St Pat's lost 2-1 to Dudelange in Luxembourg.

It remains to be seen if the Waterford man will be fit enough to play in the Open Championship next week.

Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Tom McKibbin are all among the afternoon starters.


TENNIS

It's women's semi finals day at Wimbledon.

Elina Svitolina of Ukraine faces Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, with Tunisian Ons Jabeur to play Aryna Sabalenka  of Belarus.

Play begins on centre court at 1.30.


HORSE RACING

A seven race jumps card at Downpatrick begins at 2.40.

A seven race flat card at Leopardstown starts at 5.15.
