Colm Bonnar is the new manager of the Tipperary senior hurlers.

The 1989 and 1991 All Ireland winner has been handed a 3-year term to replace Liam Sheedy.

He has managed Wexford and Carlow and was the coach with the successful Waterford hurling and Ballyhale Shamrocks teams.

Golf

The BMW Championship is underway at Wentworth with a quartet of players sharing the early lead on 1 under par.

It's the final chance for players to make the European Ryder Cup team.

Shane Lowry is one of those players hoping to make Padraig Harrington's selection.

Along with Lee Westwood, Lowry occupies one of the remaining automatic qualifying spots.

He plays alongside Westwood and Tommy Fleetwood today, teeing off at 12.55pm.

Harrington will get a close look at one of his automatic selections as he plays alongside Viktor Hovland today.

Graeme McDowell, Jonathan Caldwell and Cormac Sharvin are also in the field.

Soccer

Northern Ireland played out a goalless draw with Switzerland in their World Cup qualifier in Belfast last night.

Bailey Peacock Farrell saved a penalty in the game.

Harry Kane scored as England drew 1-1 with Poland, while it finished scoreless between Wales and Estonia.

Meanwhile, Jeff Hendrick has praised teenager Gavin Bazunu following the 19 year-old's heroics against Serbia on Tuesday night.

Bazunu saved 10 shots in the 1-1 draw.

Midfielder Hendrick says the Republic of Ireland are well stocked for goalkeepers right now:

Tennis

Novak Djokovic has maintained his hopes of a calendar year Grand Slam by reaching the semi finals of the US Open in New York.

He beat Matteo Berrettini in 4 sets this morning and will now face Alexander Zverev.

Maria Sakkari was a straight sets winner over Karolina Pliskova and she will now meet Britain's Emma Raducanu in the last four of the women's singles.
