Wednesday Morning: Manchester United & Leeds United Face Each Other Twice In The Premier League This Week

Race meeting in Fairyhouse today

SOCCER

Manchester United and Leeds United face each other twice in the Premier League this week - and the first meeting is at Old Trafford tonight.

Kick off is at 8pm.

Casemiro is suspended for United, while Jadon Sancho  could start.

Michael Skubala will take temporary charge of Leeds after Jesse Marsch was sacked on Monday.

A win will send United level on points with second placed Manchester City.

Leeds are only ahead of the relegation zone right now on goal difference.

There is one FA Cup fourth round replay tonight as Sunderland host Fulham at the Stadium of Light from 7.45.

Last night, Sheffield United beat Wrexham 3-1, Grimsby Town were 3-nil winners over Luton Town, Fleetwood Town defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-nil and Burnley saw off Ipswich Town by 2 goals to 1.

Republic of Ireland under 21 international Andy Lyons scored his first goal for Blackpool as they drew 2-2 with Huddersfield Town in the Championship.

BASKETBALL

Le Bron James has become the NBA's all time leading points scorer.

The 38 year old Los Angeles Lakers star eclipsed Kareem Abdul Jabbar's 39 year old record by reaching a mark of 38 thousand 388 points in a game against Oklahoma City Thunder.

HORSE RACING

Trainer Gordon Elliott will face an independent panel of the British Horseracing Authority today after one of his horses - Zanahiyr tested positive for a banned substance following last year's Cheltenham Champion Hurdle, in which the horse finished third.

Zanahiyr's post race sample showed the presence of a local anaesthetic used in equine medicine.

The panel will have to decide whether to disqualify the horse and determine Elliott's level of culpability.

Elliott has trained 150 winners in Ireland this season - a successful return to the sport after he served a six month ban in 2021 for bringing racing into disrepute.

This was after he was pictured sitting on a dead horse.

On the track, there is a meeting at Fairyhouse today from 12.45.
