SOCCER

The Republic of Ireland's women's football team continue their World Cup adventure this afternoon.

The Girls in Green need at least a draw against Olympic champions Canada to keep their hopes of progressing out of Group B alive.

Defeat would see them eliminated at the group stage following their opening 1-0 loss to co-hosts Australia.

Forward Kyra Carusa says they've taken plenty of positives from that game though.

Blessington's Louise Quinn and Heather Payne are both in races to be fit for the game.

That game in Perth kicks off at 1 o'clock Irish Time,

There was action already in Group C this morning - Japan beat Costa Rica 2-0 in Dunedin.

Spain play Zambia at Eden Park from 8:30pm.

The draw for the second round of the FAI Cup was made last evening and the two most recent champions are set to face each other.

Holders Derry City will welcome 2021 winners St Patrick's Athletic to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

That's the only all Premier Division tie in the round.

Finn Harps will host Skerries while UCD will take on Galway United.

Cork City will entertain Munster neighbours Waterford, Wexford will be away to St. Patrick's CY,

Kerry will host Drogheda, Dundalk will go to the Carlisle Grounds to take on Bray Wanderers and Bohemians will welcome Rockmount AFC to Dalymount Park.

The games will be played in the week ending Sunday 20th August.
