The CHO7 area includes Kildare
Some 2665 families are waiting on an Assessment of Need in the CH07 area which includes Kildare.
Kildare South Senator Mark Wall has said the news is nothing short of a scandal.
In a debate with the Minister for State for Disability, Anne Rabbitte T.D., in the Seanad , the Minister confirmed that the figure was 2665 up from a previously reported 1320.
The Minister went on to describe these figures as Groundhog Day and as bad as it can get in a very frank and honest contribution.
Deputy Rabbitte indicated that she has secured €11.5 million from the Budget to address these backlogs and it was her intention to set up 6 regional teams to specifically address these back logs in the quickest possible time.
Labour Senator Mark Wall commented: “For the many families I represent, the setting up of these regional teams cannot come quick enough.
"Families cannot continue to see their loved ones left behind without the supports they need and deserve. I continue to get calls from so many families waiting and waiting.
"What they now want are time frames and what their loved ones deserve is timely access to services, they are now waiting years and their quality of life has been severely affected," he added.
