Concerns have been raised that the bridge is too narrow
There have been continued calls for works to be completed on Morristown bridge in Newbridge.
Concerns have been raised that the bridge is too narrow, as Kildare County Council say they are awaiting a response from Iarnród Éireann regarding the situation.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fine Gael Councillor for Kildare-Newbridge MD Peggy O' Dwyer said it's been brought up "multiple times".
Cllr O' Dwyer also asked for KCC to engage further with Iarnród Éireann regarding the issue.
She explained the issues at hand there:
"It's a two-way bridge but it's very narrow, a pedestrian would not be able to walk over it, I did meet an engineer there five years ago, traffic lights aren't an option because there's too many roads coming out that would create a huge backlog."
"The lands on the other side have been rezoned for residential [use], but there isn't much point if you don't upgrade the infrastructure that is needed."
"It is one of the most difficult bridges, we have many that need upgrades, but Morristown is the one in particular."
In November, she had requested for KCC to engage with Iarnród Éireann in order to get a strategic plan ready, but little has come of that since.
