Concerns have been raised as road closures are due to take place in Celbridge to allow Uisce Éireann works in the area.
The works are due to take place from May 6th until July 1st on R405 Hazelhatch road
Speaking on Kildare Today, local Celbridge resident Kevin Mullen, and Naoise O' Cearuil discussed the issue:
Mr Mullen said that existing roadworks have caused access to be blocked to two secondary schools in the area, with future works expected to cause access issues for two primary schools in the area, St. Patrick's and Primrose Hill.
Mr Mullen, who had complained to Kildare County Council, also said "the town has been operating for weeks with it's primary route from the motorway completely shut".
Uisce Éireann have said that it is not feasible to complete all of these works during school holidays, adding that works near schools are at a minimum during state examinations.
In a statement to Kfm News ,Kildare County Council have said that a public consultation period is provided during which members of the public may make submissions or observations, adding that all submissions received are reviewed and taken into account, however, individual responses are not issued.
They also stated that access will be maintained for local residents and emergency services.
Fianna Fáil TD for Kildare North, Naoise O' Cearúil has said that the works are necessary but there are issues with the timing:
"Most people understand that these works are necessary, we need to upgrade the water infrastructure in Kildare."
He criticised the timing of the works, "pushing back" on the claim from Uisce Éireann that the works couldn't be completed entirely during the summer holidays.
