Speaking on this morning’s Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil Cllr on the Kildare-Newbridge MD, Suzanne Doyle, said that those apart of the encampment know how to "use and abuse the system".
She also called for legislation to strengthen laws for confiscation in situations like the encampments seen on the Curragh plains.
She said that she "shared the frustration" of the general public, adding the suggestion of drones to be deployed to monitor such situations in the Curragh.
"I would have a drone over the Curragh every two hours. The army have drones, there's no reason it wouldn't be good practice to run them every two hours."
In a statement to Kfm News, the Department of Defence said:
"The Department of Defence has been continuously working to address the issue of encampments. The Department is in direct contact with the Chief State Solicitor's Office on the matter, and the encampments in question have already been issued with a notice to quit. Should this notice not be complied with, legal action will be immediately taken."
In his social media post, Deputy Ó Fearghaíl said that he was in contact Minister for Defence Helen McEntee regarding the situation on the Curragh.
He called for a "permanent solution", and that it was "not reasonable" for the Department of Defence to "rush to the courts and incur costs" to have encampments removed.
In 2024, Kfm News reported that taxpayers paid €200,000 to clean up illegal dumping on the Curragh.
