Most recently, one individual was fined up to €1,000 for being caught dumping multiple times at Corban's Lane
Discussions have been continuing to address illegal dumping at Corban's lane in Naas, following a question put forward by Independent Ireland Councillor on the Naas MD, Ger Dunne at a recent Naas MD meeting.
In January, an IBAL report outlined that a heavily littered derelict site at Corban’s Lane was a key factor dragging down Naas' overall dumping score.
There is currently no dedicated funding stream for CCTV there, but Kildare County Council says it is being prioritised.
Speaking on this morning's Kildare Today, Cllr Dunne, said the council will look at the upcoming budget to see if funding can be allocated for the provision of CCTV.
However, both a business case and Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) are required for each CCTV scheme.
In response to Cllr Dunne's question, Kildare County Council said Corban's Lane is not suitable for a CCTV scheme, due to its close proximity to residential properties.
CCTV for the area is being looked at down the line, and "at the very least, it would be a deterrent if it was there."
According to Cllr Dunne, one individual was fined up to €1,000 for being caught dumping multiple times at Corban's Lane.
It is understood the individual was caught due to receipts found in the rubbish they dumped at the site.
CCTV pilot schemes have proven successful in the county, including one at Edmund Rice Square in Athy where over 40 fines were issued to people caught illegally dumping.
In relation to the ongoing illegal dumping issues at Corban's Lane, Cllr Dunne said they are hoping for people to ring Kildare County Council if they see anyone illegally dumping in the area.
Fines for illegal dumping can be on-the-spot (€250) or if the offence is more serious, or the initial fine is unpaid, the offender can be taken to court and a fine of up to €4,000 can be issued.
