Athy and Kildare Town have been named among 11 additional towns qualifying for Government funding under Call 3 of the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF).
The initiative aims to combat vacancy and dereliction in town centres.
Athy and Kildare Town join Celbridge, Leixlip, Maynooth, Naas, and Newbridge on the list of eligible towns in Kildare, bringing the total funding allocation for the county to over €28.4 million across three rounds of URDF funding.
The announcement was made alongside the Government's Housing for All quarterly progress report and the publication of the vacant homes action plan progress report by the Department of Housing, Heritage, and Local Government.

Following a recent review based on the 2022 census, Athy and Kildare Town now meet the criteria, enabling them to apply for funding and incorporate properties into their acquisition programmes.
