It will be December before an offer will be made to the chosen candidate.
The Government is defending how long it's taking to appoint a new Director of the National Cyber Security Centre.
The post was already vacant for over a year when the HSE was the target of a ransomware attack in May.
The position was re-advertised at a higher salary of 184 thousand euro in September, with today the closing day for applications.
The Department of Environment, Climate and Communications has told the Public Accounts Committee, of which Kildare North TD, Catherine Murphy is Deputy Chair, that it will be December before an offer will be made to the chosen candidate.
Secretary General Mark Griffin says it's important no corners are cut in the application process
