Minister Lawless also said there was encouraging assurances given that the project is on track following the granting of full planning permission in 2024.
Fianna Fáil Minister and Kildare North TD James Lawless has described a meeting with Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD regarding the progression of DART+ South West as "positive".
Minister Lawless also said there was encouraging assurances given that the project is on track following the granting of full planning permission in 2024.
It follows the project being stalled, as well as a recent letter from Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien TD that DART+ West must deliver city-centre electrification, additional rail capacity and a new depot before DART services can extend to Hazelhatch and Celbridge.
Minister Lawless said “while DART+ West is currently ahead in the delivery queue and expected to move first to construction, this is due to its critical role in delivering the new depot and city centre capacity upgrades required to support the expanded DART network.”
Tánaiste Simon Harris had previously had refused to commit to restarting the DART+ South West rail project, despite accepting that congestion in Kildare is already at breaking point.
