A report from the Parliamentary Budget Office shows that out of more than 31,500 households in Ireland, the main applicant for social housing was aged 50 or over.
The number of people aged 50 or over contacting Alone over housing difficulties is rising.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Head of Communications for Alone, Frank Dillon, said more and more older people renting can't afford to keep up payments when their income drops later in life.

The average listed rent is now €1983, up 45% from the level prevailing the covid 19 pandemic.
