The local area plan is contingent on the completion of a local transport plan
A local councillor has said he is still awaiting a local area plan for Kilcock.
It comes as the timeline for the plan has been pushed back to Q4 of 2026, and is contingent on the completion of a local transport plan.
He expressed frustration at the lack of a "preferred timeline" being set by the council, as the deadline for the local area plan has been pushed back "several times", with the latest deadline noted as Q4 of this year.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Social Democrats Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Peter Melrose said that Kilcock is one of the fastest growing towns in Kildare and indeed in the country:
"We not only need to meet the current demand, but we need to have a serious think about future demand, when we our granting permission for huge amounts of housing, there has to be engagement with the infrastructure, otherwise we're going to end up with our resources being choked."
"My experience of Kilcock is a town that is growing, in 2026, it's an active commuter town."
Cllr Melrose added that Kilcock hasn't been given the same platform as other towns in north Kildare:
"I think there's still that legacy of Kilcock not being given the same platform other towns in north Kildare, Kilcock is growing rapidly and we need to cater for it and make sure the infrastructure is there."
