Calls have been made to cover operational costs at the facility
A Kildare TD has called on the Department of the Environment to fund the ongoing operational costs of Kerdiffstown Park.
Social Democrats TD for Kildare North Aidan Farrelly asked the Secretary General of the Department, Oonagh Buckley, who was appearing before the committee, to look at funding the facility on an ongoing basis.
“It is one of the most phenomenal pieces of work undertaken across many departments,” he said, speaking of the former landfill site which has been transformed into a sporting and leisure facility.
It was said that the Department of Environment had contributed towards the €60 million cost of the renovation of the facility.
Ms Buckley admitted that she did not known how much it cost to run the facility on an annual basis, adding that it was the responsibility of the local authority.
Commenting after the meeting, Deputy Farrelly said that he had essentially requested that the department provides financial support to the local authority to keep Kerdiffstown operational.
